Artificial grass installation services in Bristol & Yate
Fitting artificial grass to existing lawns or other similar soft surfaces usually involves the removal of around 50-100mm of the existing foundation from the area.
Like any quality job every aspect must be taken seriously, so this is why we take satisfaction in carefully choosing the products we use only offering high quality materials to efficiently get the job done from start to finish at the best standard possible.
Artificial grass, fake grass or astro turf?
People ring us asking for all of these and they nearly always mean the same thing. Artificial grass, fake grass, synthetic turf and artificial lawn are just different everyday names for a manufactured grass surface, and none is more correct than the others.
Astro turf is the one worth pulling apart. AstroTurf began as a brand name in American sport in the 1960s, and the name stuck to the short, dense, sand filled surface you still see on hockey pitches and five a side courts. It is hard wearing and fast, but it is not what most people want underfoot in a back garden.
What we fit for gardens is a longer pile, usually 30 to 40mm, in several shades of green with a brown thatch running through it, so it reads as a real lawn rather than a sports carpet. It is soft enough to sit and play on. If you do want a genuine short pile sports surface for a training area or a putting green, we fit that too, so it is worth saying which you are after when you call.
How we install artificial grass
A lawn is only as good as what sits underneath it. Most of the failed installations we get called out to look at went wrong in the groundwork, not the grass. Here is how we do it.
1. Free survey and fixed quote
We come out, measure properly and look at access, levels and drainage. You get a written price that does not move once work begins.
2. Ground preparation
We dig out around 50 to 100mm of existing lawn and soil, take the spoil away and set the levels so water runs where it should.
3. Base and drainage
A compacted aggregate base goes down, then a sharp sand or granite dust screed, laid level and firm. This is the part that decides how your lawn drains.
4. Laying and finishing
Grass is laid with the pile running one way, joins secured properly, edges fixed and the pile brushed up. We clear up and take everything away.

Where we install artificial grass across Bristol
We are based in Yate and work right across Bristol and South Gloucestershire, so we know the ground we are digging into. North Bristol gardens around Henleaze and Westbury on Trym tend to be larger and more established. The terraces of Easton, Southville and Bedminster are usually compact, with access through the house or a narrow side return, which shapes how we get materials in. East Bristol sits on heavy clay that holds water all winter, which is exactly where a properly built base earns its money.
Artificial grass in Bristol: your questions answered
How much does artificial grass cost in Bristol?
It depends on the size and shape of your garden, how much digging out the ground needs, access for getting materials in and out, and which grass you choose. A small, square, easily accessed lawn costs a good deal less per square metre than a sloping garden with narrow side access.
Rather than quote a figure that turns out to be wrong, we come out, measure up and give you a fixed written price with no obligation. That price does not change once work starts. Call or text 07861 676629 to arrange a visit.
How long does an installation take?
Most domestic gardens in and around Bristol are finished in a single day. Larger lawns, or gardens needing significant levelling or groundwork, can run into a second day. We will tell you which yours is when we quote, so you can plan around it.
Is artificial grass suitable for dogs?
Yes, and it is one of the most common reasons people call us. There is no mud, so no muddy paws through the house, and the surface rinses clean. Fleas and ticks cannot live in it the way they can in real turf.
We fit a permeable base specifically so pet waste drains away and can be hosed through. There is more in our guide to artificial grass for dogs.
Does artificial grass drain properly in wet weather?
It drains better than the waterlogged clay a lot of Bristol and South Gloucestershire gardens sit on. The grass itself is perforated, and underneath it we build a compacted aggregate base designed to let water through and away.
Drainage is decided by the base, not the grass, which is why we do not cut corners on groundwork. A lawn laid straight onto soil will hold water however good the grass is.
How long will it last, and will it fade?
A properly installed artificial lawn should give you 15 years or more of use. Everything we fit is UV protected, so it holds its colour through years of sun without any treatment.
Every installation is backed by a 7 year manufacturer's warranty. There is more in our guide to how long artificial grass lasts.
What maintenance does it actually need?
Very little. A brush every few weeks to lift the pile and clear leaves, and an occasional rinse. No mowing, no watering, no feeding and no weekend lost to the lawn.
Our full guide covers it properly: how to clean and maintain artificial grass.
Do you cover my part of Bristol, and who does the work?
We cover Bristol, South Gloucestershire and Bath, from Clifton and Redland across to Fishponds and Brislington, out through Yate, Thornbury and Chipping Sodbury. You can see every area we cover, or just call 07861 676629.
Everything is handled in house, from the first site visit to the finished edge. We do not subcontract installations, so the team who quote your garden are the team who fit it. We are fully insured and have been working across the Bristol area since 2021.
